Vocational Counselor

Location: Boston Metro
Type: Full-time/Part-time

Help individuals in our vocational program identify and prepare for jobs where they can flourish and succeed! As a Vocational Counselor, you will assist individuals with career planning, helping them find, prepare for and keep satisfying jobs. In this role, you will work with referral agencies to enroll individuals seeking vocational supports, and also identify employers offering employment that aligns with our vocational program. The ideal candidate will have experience working with people with developmental disabilities, preferably in a vocational setting. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, offering competitive pay, excellent benefits and free training opportunities. Essential job functions include the following:

  • Complete pre-screening, assessments and Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) paperwork.
  • Provide on-going training and support to participating employers.
  • Prepare individuals for employment by assisting them in multiple steps of the process, such as: completing applications; working on interview skills; complying with dress codes; practicing social skills, etc.
  • Represent TILL’s programs and individuals in a professional manner, maintaining good public relations with all community contacts.
  • Maintain appropriate progress notes and records corresponding to each person's Individual Support Plan (ISP) and other pertinent MRC record keeping requirements.
  • Continually research marketable jobs and ensure appropriate skills training is available to individuals.
  • Research businesses in the community for contract work that is compatible with vocational goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalency.
  • A BA/BS in Human Service, Psychology, Sociology, Rehabilitation, Special Education or related field is preferred.
  • 2 or 3 years of experience with developmentally disabled individuals, preferably in a vocational setting is required.
  • Valid driver’s license and car required.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
